The CMS Spring Showcase Concert was an amazing array of fantastic music!
Choral Waves’ repertoire ranged from I Dreamed of Rain by Jan Garrett to Gordon Lightfoot’s Rainy Day People to Harry Belafonte’s Turn The World Around.
This year, Cochrane Music Society commissioned Oliver Munar to compose a piece for Choral Waves and our choir premiered his composition Together with lyrics by Ruth Ullyatt, one of our soprano singers.
Riverside Jazz had a lineup of iconic charts from Chick Corea’s jazz fusion standard Spain to Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova The Girl from Ipanema to Elton John’s pop rock I’m Still Standing.
Band on the Bow performed a variety of musical themes from love, with repertoire that spans almost 100 years from the 1876 Czech opera Hubička to the Beatles, to gratitude expressed by the Japanese Variations on Plum Blossom Theme and Grace before Sleep by American composer Susan LaBarr, to appreciation of the grandeur of our own Pacific coast in the Cascadia Suite by Robert Buckley.
